BASEBALL

Niles 6-3, Lisbon 2-1

NILES

In game one, Niles scored two runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take a home victory. Marco DeFalco struck out eight and walked one while pitching all seven innings for Niles and Richard Limongi went 2 for 3 with three RBIs. The Red Dragons knocked around Lisbon reliever Logan Bell who gave up four earned runs in two innings of work. In game two, Brandon Weida and Tyler Srbinovich combined for eight strikeouts in seven innings for Niles. Limongi went 3 for 3 with a run scored and Jeff Hosey went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Twinsburg 8-12, Struthers 2-2

STRUTHERS

Christian Tejada went 2 for 4 with two triples and two RBIs in game one of Twinsburg’s sweep of Srtuthers. Jake Carinci went 3 for 4 with an RBI as well. In game two, which only went six innings, Tejada went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs while Ryan Christy went 4 for 5 with a double and two RBIs. Pat Carano had a triple for Struthers in game two.

Campbell 6, Jackson-Milton 2

NORTH JACKSON

With the win, Campbell has won five out of its past six games. Mike Jones threw a complete game, allowing no earned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out eight. At the plate, Jacob Mistovich had two hits and Laz Lebron scored two runs. No stats were reported for Jackson-Milton.

Salem 5-3, Springfield 3-4

NEW MIDDLETOWN

Salem scored all five runs through the first four innings of game one. Salem’s Kane Zellers, Tyler Sims and Aaron Robbins each had two hits, with Zellers and Simms each hitting a double. Nathan Sommers led Springfield with a double and two RBIs. Keaton Turney struck out four to get the win for the Quakers. Springfield won game two after a Salem error scored Brandon Walters in the sixth inning. Sommers pitched the seventh inning to earn the save, while Zach Renaldy got the win. Salem’s Andrew Pasco collected two hits, including a double.

Champion 7, Chagrin Falls 4

CHAGRIN FALLS

The Golden Flashes struck early with four runs in the top of the first inning. Aaron Williams got the win, striking out six in the process while Lucas Nasonti had three hits for Champion. A.J. Meyer had two hits and three RBIs. Michael Turner knocked in a pair of runs as well.

Boardman 6, Crestview 5

BOARDMAN

The Spartans (9-7) won the game in the bottom of the seventh inning when Elijah Rodriguez scored on a throwing error. Crestview (12-2) scored three runs in the sixth and another in the seventh to tie the contest. Dom Stilliano had three hits for Boardman, while Gavin Striner notched two hits and two RBIs. The Rebels were led by Tyler Fitzsimmons’ two hits.

Newton Falls 11, East 1

NEWTON FALLS

Preston Rapczak threw a five-inning no-hitter for Newton Falls despite surrendering a run. Noah Suarez had three hits for the Tigers, while J.J. Nicholas notched four RBIs.

West Branch 3-8 Akron Springfield 2-5

BELOIT

In the first game, Connor Hedrick notched a two-out, two-RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead West Branch (11-7) past Akron Springfield. Brant Alazaus went all seven innings for the Warriors, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out six. In the second game, Seth Schroeder, TJ DeShields and Trae Hillyer all had two hits for West Branch, while Austin Smith allowed on run in two relief innings to earn the victory.

Ursuline 6, St. Thomas Aquinas 1

STRUTHERS

Chris Patton tossed a complete-game to lead Ursuline in a Bob Cene Catholic Tournament matchup, allowing just one run on five hits in seven innings. Bobby Cavalier had two hits and two RBIs for the Fighting Irish, while Brice Bokesch went 2 for 3 with an RBI.

SOFTBALL

Salem 6-7, Columbiana 4-1

COLUMBIANA

The Quakers jumped out to early leads in both games to sweep a doubleheader. In game one, freshman Bailee Thorn struck out six in a complete game win. Rylee Lieder hit an estimated 230 foot home run while Alyssa Laubacher went 3 for 3. Clara Janofa hit two doubles and Thorn added two singles for the road win. In game two, Salem jumped out to a 6-0 lead after an inning and a half and never looked back from there.

Ursuline 7, Orrville 2

ORRVILLE

Jordyn Kenneally dominated Orrville with 12 strikeouts and no walks to pick up the win. Megan Ross had three hits including a double and three RBIs. Gia Caldrone and Kenneally also had doubles for the Fighting Irish (9-3). Adi Quattro had two hits for Urusline while Macey Martin led Orrville with three hits.

Brunswick 11, Hubbard 4

AKRON

Brunswick scored six runs in the first inning and dominated throughout. Gabbi Campbell hit a two-run home run and had two singles in the win. Kat Ferretti had an RBI double as well. Annie Zagorec had two hits and Athena Smith had a two-run single for Hubbard.

Poland 3, West Branch 1

POLAND

Kathryn Wilson’s two-run double in the bottom of the sixth scored the go-ahead runs for Poland (8-5). Audrey Schweers collected two hits and Amanda Wire had one to bring the Bulldogs’ total hits to four. West Branch’s (15-1) Kylie Coffelt scored her team’s lone run with a solo home run. She was also the losing pitcher with nine strikeouts and a walk. Megan Marsico was the winning pitcher by giving up a run on six hits and two walks with six strikeouts.

Boardman 15, Steubenville 13

STEUBENVILLE

Lauren Gabriele and Savanna Dempsey each hit home runs for Boardman in the shoot-out win, which was decided by the Spartans scoring five runs in the seventh inning. Dempsey, Oliva Russell and Paige Dill all had multi-hit games.

Boardman 4, University School (WV) 3

STEUBENVILLE

Boardman won by grabbing the two go-ahead runs in the top of the seventh. Olivia Russell, Savanna Dempsey and Lauren Gabriele each hit a double for the Spartans. Sydney Aey picked up the win in relief.

Champion 3, Hubbard 1

AKRON

McKenzie Zigmont limited Hubbard to one run on five hits and two walks while striking out 15 two get the win for Champion. Zigmont added two hits at the plate and Alayna Fell had three hits. Addy Jarvis had two hits for Hubbard.

Cardinal Mooney 14-5, Magnificat 3-6

ROCKY RIVER

In game one, Cardinal Mooney’s Sydney Kocher set a new school record for triples in a game with three, knocking in four runs along the way. Conchetta Rinaldi had three RBIs on two hits and Kayla Rutherford got the win on the mound. Mooney forced extra innings in game two after Adrianna Popovich had a two-out, two-run single to cap a four-run rally to tie the game. Magnificat scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.
