Leon Russell to play at Bojangle’s Blues

NEW WATERFORD

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Leon Russell will come to Bojangle’s Blues, 48400 state Route 14, on June 24 for an outdoor concert at the amphitheater behind the building.

Tickets are $40 in advance at bojanglesblues.com or 330-846-0124. Parking is free. Opening acts will be the TG Davis Band and the Chub Scouts.

The concert will start at 8 p.m., but doors will open at 5 p.m. The show will take place rain or shine.

YSU concert, wind bands to perform

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown State University Concert Band, led by Brandt Payne, conductor, and the YSU Wind Ensemble, led by Stephen L. Gage, will close their respective performance seasons with a concert titled “Firebird & Other Tales!” at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave.

Benjamin Toth, professor of percussion at Hartt School of Music, will be guest soloist.

Admission is $6 ($5 for senior citizens and students; free with a valid YSU ID).

Football standout to discuss career

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society, in partnership with the Ebony Lifeline Sports Museum, is presenting a free lecture, “Leadership and Legacy: Character in a Crisis,” by Gary Frost at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., downtown.

Frost, a pastor in Youngstown and New York for 23 years, was a football and basketball standout at East High School. He played quarterback for Mount Union College and was named All-Conference quarterback and Most Valuable Player in 1976.
