Boardman High School boys track team stands out at meet


The Boardman boys track team improved its 2016 record to 5-1 and 1-1 in the AAC after finishing second at a tri-meet at Austintown on April 12. Fitch was first with 81 points followed by the Spartans with 65 and then Canfield with 29.

The Spartans opened the meet with a victory by senior Nathan Hadley, junior Chris Butler, senior Adam Deeley and junior Nathaniel Ams in the 4x800 meter relay. In the next event, the 110-meter hurdles, senior Nick Cessna placed third. In the 100-meter dash, Spartan senior Brendon Lucas placed first.

In the 1600-meter run, Butler placed second, Ams was third and junior Nick Digiacomo was fourth. Lucas finished first in the 400-meter run, while Cessna was first in the 300 hurdles with senior Canon Carlile in third.

In the 800-meter run, senior Kobe Adu-Poku finished fourth, while in the 200-meter run Lucas finished first. The next event was the 3200-meter run which was won by Hadley with Digiacomo in fourth. The 4x400 meter relay team of Adu-Poku, Lucas, sophomore Ethan Himes and senior Kris Santilli placed first.

“We really had some great performances today, especially that 4x4,” said Boardman Head Coach John Phillips, “Fitch is still an excellent team, but we are pretty solid too.”

In the field events, senior Jason Jama was second in the shot put with junior George Wallace in fourth. Senior Markeese Haynes was fourth in the discus, while in the pole vault senior Richard Fisher was first. In the long jump, Fisher finished third and in the high jump sophomore Justice Jama placed first with Fisher fourth.
