Blood testing offered after high lead found at Ohio schools

GRANVILLE, Ohio (AP) — Students and staff in a central Ohio school district are being offered free blood testing after high lead levels were discovered in water from some of the district’s drinking fountains.

The Granville school district northeast of Columbus said last week that tests showed water coming from some fountains was above the federal limit. The fountains at the schools have been shut off, and bottled water is being given to students and teachers.

The Licking County Health Department was offering the blood screenings today at Granville High School. County health officials said they hoped to test as many students and staff as possible.

Only staff and students enrolled at the high School, the middle school, intermediate school and elementary school were to be screened.
