Yavorcik seeks sentencing delay for alcohol assessment
CLEVELAND — Atty. Martin Yavorcik, who was convicted by a jury March 25 in the Oakhill Renaissance Place criminal case, has asked for a delay in his sentencing, which is scheduled for Friday.
In a motion filed Monday, Yavorcik asked for the delay to enable a court-approved treatment facility to give him an alcohol abuse assessment.
He also asked for the postponement to enable him to raise funds to retain a lawyer for his appeal and obtain a transcript of his two-week trial, in which he represented himself.
He estimated the transcript alone would cost about $10,000.
Yavorcik wasn’t specific in his written motion about the length of the delay he is seeking.
The court docket does not show any ruling by Judge Janet Burnside of Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, who was the trial judge, concerning Yavorcik’s motion for a sentencing postponement.
