Munnell Run Farm hosts Earth Day festivities

Staff report

MERCER, PA.

Munnell Run Farm, 753 Greenville Road, is hosting upcoming events.

The Mercer County Conservation District, in cooperation with farm officials and students from Grove City College, will offer Earth Day festivities from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

From 9 to 11:30 a.m., guests will rotate between four stations that will highlight farming in Pennsylvania and its ties to conservation. Participants will learn how to be homesteaders and earn badges to work the land at the farm.

After a badge ceremony, guests will help prepare the farm’s wildflower gardens for spring from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. by removing debris, adding mulch and planting milkweed seed.

Dress accordingly for messy work and take gloves. The event also will have a children’s station for pre-kindergarteners through second-graders that will focus on caring for the earth and highlighting the importance of farming.

A free lunch will follow the cleanup. The event will be offered rain or shine. Registration is required by Wednesday.

Guest artisan Georgia Mosebach is set to teach a tole-painting class of a 5-by-16-inch decorative concrete paver with bee hives from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 27. No art experience is required for the class, and all materials will be provided.

Cost is $30. Registration and payment are due by Friday.

For information or to register for either event, call 724-662-2242 and ask for Jacqueline McCullough or Larissa Cassano.
