Pet owners show up for low-cost rabies vaccination clinic at Angels for Animals

GREEN — They arrived in all sizes – meowing, yipping and barking and sniffing – nervously getting acquainted while waiting in line to get vaccinated at today’s rabies clinic at Angels for Animals in Canfield.

The clinic, which ran from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Angels for Animals facility on W. South Range Road in the township, attracted upward of 200 pets accompanied by their owners, said Ryan Tekac, director of the environmental health division of the Mahoning County District Board of Health in partnership with Dr. Richard Nokes, D.M.V., and Angels for Animals, which sponsored the event.

Among those taking advantage of the low-cost rabies clinic – $6 per shot – was Rory Lieder of Salem, who brought four small dogs to get shots.

“It’s pretty handy, and the price is right,” Lieder said of the clinic.
