Parish mission

AUSTINTOWN

St. Joseph Church, 4545 New Road, will conduct a parish mission on the theme, “Tales of Forgiveness and Hope,” at 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. April 24 and 6:30 p.m. April 25.

Each session will include music, prayer, reflection, and inspiration.

Refreshments will be served 30 minutes prior to each session.

Retreat on service

CANFIELD

Women 21 to 40 years old are invited to a retreat with The Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown.

The Service in the Spirit of Pope Francis retreat will take place from May 18-20 at the Motherhouse, 4250 Shields Road.

The focus will be on how Scripture calls us to lives of service.

Participants will visit several of the Ursulines’ ministry sites around Mahoning County and serve those in need. They’ll also enjoy quiet time, prayer and reflection with like-minded women.

Taiz prayer

VILLA MARIA, PA.

Villa Maria will host Taiz prayer at 7:30 p.m. April 21 in the Magnificat Chapel.

Participants will gather around the cross for prayer in the tradition of the ecumenical monastery of Taiz , France. This Christian interdenominational prayer form includes music, Scripture and silence.

Light refreshments and fellowship will follow the prayer service. There is no charge to attend.

NORTH LIMA

The community is invited to participate in a prayer event from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Calvary United Methodist Church, 12062 South Ave.

Prayers will focus on our nation, schools, churches and any other prayer needs.

Light refreshments will be available from 6 to 6:30 p.m. There also be a drive-through prayer that night. Renae Meggitt is the pastor.

Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, 1210 Himrod Ave., will celebrate its 94th anniversary at 10:30 a.m. April 24.

Guest speaker will be Cameron Bowman of The Fresh Church.

NORTH LIMA

North Lima Mennonite Church, 90 Mennonite Drive, will host guest speaker Kennedy Chongo at 6 p.m. April 24. He will share his story of being an orphan on the streets of Zambia to playing professional soccer in America to teaching at Valley Christian Schools in Youngstown.

Pastoral anniversary

The Rev. Melvin D. Brown and his wife, Aquile, will mark his 11th anniversary as pastor of Gospel Temple Baptist Church, 279 Whipple Ave., this weekend.

The Rev. Bobby McCraney of Elizabeth Baptist Church in Akron will speak at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. At 4 p.m., guest speaker will be the Rev. Curtis Johnson Jr. of New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Sandusky, Ohio.

Bible journey

Centenary/Mahoning United Methodist Church, 1413 Belmont Ave., will host a free weekend Bible journey, “Jesus, the Transformer,” from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 23 and at worship at 10 a.m. April 24. Meals will be provided at the gatherings.
