Austintown Intermediate School celebrated 43 of its students who entered the Austintown Optimist Club poster contest on March 8.

The Austintown Optimist Club hosted a poster contest with the theme “Police are my Heroes.” Austintown Police Department collaborated with the Austintown Optimist Club to pick the winners of the contest. Three students were chosen as winners from grades 3, 4 and 5 out of 43 students who created a poster.

The third-grade winner was Brenyn Wilson, the fourth-grade winner was Ella Holbrook and the fifth-grade winner was Hannah Magrell. All of the submissions demonstrated how police are heroes, but these three winners stood out to the judging committee.

“It was tough to pick the winner. We had a committee and about 50 kids entered,” said Lori Ferreri, president of the Austintown Optimist Club.

All of the students who submitted an entry received a prize in return. The students each got a T-shirt, a pencil and various other items. The winners received a framed award and became a member of the Police Force for a day.

“We had a good turnout, the kids put a lot of creativity into it,” said Ferreri.

All of the posters will be put up in several areas around the community. Some will be at the Austintown Police Department, Austintown Intermediate School, the Eastwood Mall and several other locations to be put on display for the students to show off their hard work and creativity.
