Esarco set for Colgate University

Neighbors | Submitted.Canfield High School's Jacob Esarco recently signed his letter of intent to attend Colgate University upon his graduation from CHS.

Canfield senior football player/wrestler Jacob Esarco signed an NCAA letter-of-intent to accept a football athletic scholarship to Colgate University during a “signing ceremony” that took place at noon in the high school athletic foyer on Feb. 4.

Esarco garnered three varsity letters in football along with three-time All-American Conference (AAC) Red Division first team all-star recognition for head coach Mike Pavlansky’s Cardinals. Additionally, he was a two-time All-District first team pick. As a senior, he was a team captain, led the Cards to an 8–3 record and to winning the AAC Red Division title outright while earning Associated Press 2015 Division III first team All-Ohio recognition.

An accomplished wrestler, Esarco was a two-time team captain, won 145 matches and earned four varsity letters in the sport while at Canfield. He won an Eastern Ohio Wrestling League (EOWL) individual title, three Division II Sectional and two Division II District individual championships in addition to placing fourth in the Division II State Tournament as a junior and third as a senior, all in the 220 pound weight class. His contributions were instrumental to the Cardinals finishing as runners-up in the State Tournament team standings this past season.

Esarco played baseball for Canfield as a freshman and was a varsity letter-winning shot-putter and discus thrower on the school’s track team as a junior.

Esarco has also excelled as a student at Canfield, having earned National Honor Society (NHS) membership and posting a 4.00 GPA. Additionally, he received honors as the WYTV “Student-Athlete of the Week” during his senior year’s football season. He is interested in pursuing a career in the field of medicine.
