YOUNGSTOWN

Police found 88 bags of suspected crack cocaine and $3,819 cash while serving a search warrant about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday investigating drug activity at a 4202 Helena Ave. home.

Also found in the home was a loaded .40-caliber handgun that was reported stolen in September 2015.

Arrested on drug and weapons charges was Freddie Robinson, 54, who lists the home as his address, reports said. Robinson was arraigned in municipal court Wednesday on charges of trafficking in cocaine, trafficking in marijuana, possession of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The cocaine charge is a first-degree felony because of the large amount found.

Reports said officers from the vice squad, who were serving the warrant, also found 35 painkillers, two digital scales, three bags of suspected marijuana and a police scanner.

Of the money, $1,460 cash was found on Robinson when he was searched, reports said. The rest of the cash was found spread out on a table. Court records show Robinson has drug offenses dating back to at least 1998 in Mahoning County.

Assistant City Prosecutor Kathy Thompson said at his arraignment before Judge Elizabeth Kobly that Robinson’s criminal record stretches back to the late 1970s in North Carolina.

Despite the large amount of money found, Robinson asked for and received a court-appointed attorney. He told the judge he receives about $700 a month from Social Security disability.

Judge Kobly set his bond at $75,000.

Vice officers also served a warrant at a 59 Saranac Ave. home about 6:35 p.m. and found 24 bags of Suboxone, reports said. Taken into custody was Marcus Morgan, 34, who listed the home as his address.

Reports said when police arrived, two of Morgan’s children were in the house with him. Besides the Suboxone, officers also found a bag of suspected marijuana, three pills and a scale.

Morgan was arraigned on charges of trafficking in drugs, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Judge Kobly set his bond at $10,000.
