Biting case sent to grand jury

AUSTINTOWN

A case involving a woman who bit a nurse was sent to a Mahoning County grand jury for further consideration.

Heather Baney, 44, of Canfield Road, Youngstown, pleaded not guilty when she appeared in Mahoning County Area Court here on a felony assault charge Wednesday.

According to the police report, Baney bit a nurse who was trying to assist in treating a cut on the back of Baney’s head at St. Elizabeth Emergency and Diagnostic Center, 6253 Mahoning Ave., on April 2. Reports also said Baney was intoxicated.

Emergency personnel completed treating Baney’s head wound before she was taken to Mahoning County jail the following morning.

Baney still has not posted her $5,000 bond, and if she does, she is not to contact the victim or St. Elizabeth facilities unless there’s an emergency.

Road rage arrest

YOUNGSTOWN

Apparent road rage resulted in two cars chasing each other and shots being fired about 2:50 p.m. Wednesday in the 800 block of Palmer Avenue. No injuries were reported.

According to Youngstown police, officers responded to the area when shots were reported. The incident started when one car cut off the other and the second car returned the favor, resulting in the drivers following each other, police said.

When police got the cars stopped they could not locate weapons or shell casing in the cars or in the area. However, officers did recover a pistol and five spent rounds in a home on Palmer.

Arrested and charged with felonious assault and having a weapon under disability was Leonard Ellis Jr. of Youngstown, who told police he fired one shot into the ground and several into the air as warnings. He is being held in the Mahoning County jail, according to police.

Joanna Button, 29, of Stratmore Avenue, was arrested at her home Tuesday on the felony charge. She was taken to the Mahoning County jail and is scheduled to appear in Mahoning County Area Court here today.

The charge, according to a police report, is tied to a case reported in August 2015 in which a female victim, 82, told police someone opened a home equity line of credit in her name. That person reportedly obtained credit cards tied to the line of credit, and had charged $3,000.

The arrest report indicates the victim is Button’s grandmother.

Federal warrant served

YOUNGSTOWN

A city man already in the Mahoning County jail on state charges was served a federal arrest warrant Monday on a charge of transportation of a minor to engage in illicit sexual activity.

A detention is expected to take place today for David Guevara Sr., 35, for taking a 15-year-old girl with him to Philadelphia to have sex. A news release from the U.S. Attorneys Office For The Northern District of Ohio also said that Guevara met the girl in July and had sex with her in a tent underneath a bridge, and he continued the sexual relationship with her when he went to Philadelphia.

Jail records show Guevara has been in the county jail since Dec. 8 on charges of criminal trespass, assault and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
