DEMS DEBATE | Sanders has an independent streak

Thursday, April 14, 2016

BROOKLYN, N.Y.

Bernie Sanders said his appeal to independents is part of why he is a strong candidate.

“I am proud that millions of young people that previously were not involved in the political process are now coming into it, and I do believe that we have got to open the door of the Democratic party to those people," he said.

"I am in this race as a Democrat," he added.

Hillary Clinton noted that she has won more votes than anyone else in either primary, building a broad base of support.
