Warning period ends Wednesday for Hubbard speeding tickets

Tuesday, September 22, 2015

HUBBARD — Drivers in Hubbard Township are about to experience the consequences of speeding with a hit to their wallets.

The warning period for citations issued by a hand-held speeding camera, which the township introduced last month, ends Wednesday.

The camera, which is similar to cameras Youngstown debuted this summer, snaps a photo of the speeder’s license plate, which is later sent to the driver in the mail along with a civil citation.

The citation, which does not count against the alleged offender’s driving record, will carry a fine ranging from $99 to $159 for nonconstruction zones. The fine for construction zones will be doubled.

A driver must be at least 11 miles per hour over the speed limit to receive the minimum fine, and the fine cannot be more than what a court fee would have been.
