Alexander J. Rood, 23, of Yorktown Road, Austintown, the man who police say led them on a high-speed pursuit through Trumbull and Mahoning counties May 16, has been sentenced in a separate incident.

Rood was sentenced to seven months in prison Tuesday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court after pleading guilty to felony theft.

He was given credit for time served waiting for trial, meaning that time is deducted from his sentence.

Rood committed theft by writing a check from Rood Trucking, Union Street, Mineral Ridge, for $680 on April 21, according to Rood’s plea agreement.

Judge Andrew Logan ordered Rood to make restitution of $305.

Rood still has two other cases pending in common pleas court: a theft charge dating from May 1 to May 5 involving the theft of a bank card, and a felony charge of failure to comply with the orders of a police officer relating to the chase.

Police from Austintown, Lordstown and Warren, as well as the Mahoning and Trumbull counties’ posts of the Ohio State Highway Patrol chased Rood in a stolen vehicle Rood was driving sometimes at speeds of up to 100 mph, police said.

He was captured coming out of the Mahoning River near the former St. Joseph Riverside Hospital on Tod Avenue Northwest in Warren.

If convicted on the remaining charges, he could get several more years in prison.
