Ask the Expert

When: Today through Monday, noon-5 p.m.

What: Join the OSU Extension office, master gardeners and volunteer naturalists for sessions all afternoon each day at the Canfield Fair. From hydrangeas to soils and nature to honeybees, we’ll have lots for you to learn about during the fair.

Family Fun Fridays

When: Friday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

What: Each Friday, take part in fun drop-in activities in the family garden. Learn about garden creatures, tools and how to care for a garden. Enjoy making garden treats, listening to stories, kids’ yoga and more.

ACOUSTIC JAM

When: Sunday, 2-4 p.m.

What: Join us for a music jam. Bring an instrument or just come to listen. Beginners are welcome. Make new friends, have fun and learn a new tune.

Make an Herb Kitchen Wreath

When: Tuesday, 6:30–8:30 p.m.

What: Join Pam Baytos in creating a handy cooking aide – a fresh herb kitchen wreath.

Where: Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave., Youngstown.

Saplings: Apples

When: Saturday and Sept. 12, 10-11:30 a.m.

What: Ages 8 and up. Learn about the different types of apples and how to use each one. Discover the parts of the apple and use this knowledge in making and tasting apple sauces and then preparing an apple crisp to take home to share with your family.

WILD SUBURBIA PROJECT

When: Sept. 13, 2-3:30 p.m.

What: Learn about the Nature Center’s citizen science project to collect wildlife sightings. The Wild Suburbia Project aims to better understand where and how certain species of wildlife live in proximity to human population centers and one another. The presentation will be a combination of background information on fox, coyote, bear and bobcat, in addition to how to participate in the project and how to coexist with local wildlife.
