Ohio man sentenced to 2 years for fatal heroin-related crash

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A 33-year-old Dayton-area man has been sentenced to two years in prison after prosecutors say he crashed his car while high on heroin, killing a passenger.

Todd England of Germantown was sentenced Thursday in Dayton after pleading guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide on Oct. 1.

Prosecutors say England was driving with his girlfriend, 40-year-old Tonya Boyd-DeMorest, in Dayton in August 2014 when he lost control, causing the car to leave the road and hit a tree. The woman was critically injured and died the next day.

During the investigation, police found a needle, heroin and fentanyl, a powerful painkiller often mixed with heroin.

In a court filing, England’s attorney argued against a prison sentence. He said England had sought treatment, had a job and was no longer using drugs.
