YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Symphony Orchestra is in concert with the Mahoning Valley’s classical music lovers. Now it’s also working in concert with its surroundings.

As a beautification project, the YSO has put up a series of decorative banners on utility poles outside DeYor Performing Arts Center that bear its slogan for the season: “In concert with you.”

A jaunty row of musical notes dances across each of the black and white banners, which also include the orchestra’s name.

A half-dozen banners were placed this week around the corner of West Federal Street and Symphony Place, the intersection where DeYor center – home of the YSO – sits. A few more will go up in the area soon.

The banners were designed by City Printing Co. and constructed by Trinkle Signs.

It’s a part of the YSO’s continuing efforts to raise awareness of its facilities and the quality of its performance.

Mayor John A. McNally hailed the project at a press conference Wednesday at the DeYor to unveil the banners.

“The Youngstown Symphony Orchestra has long been an important and vital part of the arts scene in Youngstown, and we hope it will continue to be just that,” McNally said.

Randall Craig Fleischer, the YSO’s music director and conductor, said he is “glowing with pride that we are able to raise awareness of this building and the great artists who come here. ... It’s a beautiful space, and we are so lucky to have a world-class building.”
