Mom says Ohio toddler was burned by toilet water

Thursday, October 29, 2015

MARION, Ohio (AP) — The mother of a central Ohio toddler says the child was scalded by water in a toilet that mistakenly had been connected to the home’s hot water heater.

Police in Marion, north of Columbus, say the mother of the 23-month-old boy reported that he was pushed into the toilet by his 3-year-old brother during horseplay. Parker was hospitalized with second- and third-degree burns.

The boys’ mother says she had reported the toilet problem to the landlord multiple times, but it hadn’t been fixed. Jerry Marquis, a code-enforcement officer with the Marion Public Health Department, says both toilets in the house were connected to the water heater.

Marion police Lt. Chris Adkins says officers are trying to confirm the information provided by the mother and her boyfriend.
