Briarfield Assisted Living breaks ground on new Poland facility
POLAND
This time next year, the township will have a new 89-unit assisted-living center off U.S. Route 224 just east of Clingan Road.
Briarfield Assisted Living broke ground Tuesday on a 6.5-acre parcel that will open next year as The Inn at Poland Way, a 76,000-square-foot facility with 64 assisted-living apartments and a 25-unit wing dedicated to residents with memory disorders.
The project cost is roughly $12 million. The Western Reserve Port Authority earlier this year agreed to provide capital-lease financing for the project.
“Briarfield Healthcare’s intent is to design and build senior living facilities that meet a need,” Edward Reese, CEO of EDM Management Inc., which manages Briarfield Health Care Centers, said in a release.
“Studies show that The Inn at Poland Way will do just that. With 64 assisted-living units and 25 memory care beds under one roof, the facility will provide full-service amenities in a safe environment that promotes aging in a place for the seniors of Poland, as well as Struthers, Campbell, Lowellville and western Pennsylvania,” he said.
Reese and his wife, Diane, who is president of EDM, operate several other Briarfield facilities in the area.
“We just felt that there was a growing need in this area, both for the elderly and for those suffering from dementia,” she said of why they chose this new location. “We want to help fulfill that need.”
She highlighted some of the features of the facility, the design for which she described as “grand.”
“[Residents] can enjoy the privacy of their own apartment, while enjoying fine dining and events in an open environment,” she said. “In addition, there will be 24-hour nursing services.
“It’s not the old stereotype. Our assisted living is hotel-like. They’re beautiful.”
Some of the planned features of the facility, designed by Strollo Architects Inc. of Youngstown and to be built by A.P. O’Horo Co. of Youngstown, include a “spacious” common area, main dining room, courtyard, private dining room for special occasions, concierge services, resident transportation services, beauty salon and spa services, housekeeping and laundry, daily social events and entertainment.
The assisted-living units will be a mix of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites.
Local government officials who attended Tuesday’s event also spotlighted some positive aspects of the project.
“This is really a big day for us in Poland Township, because it’s not often that you have something of this caliber come to your town,” township Trustee Bob Lidle said.
Company representatives estimate that opening the facility will create 50 jobs.
