Less firewood in northwest Ohio means prices will be higher

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — As winter approaches, firewood suppliers in northwest Ohio say prices are up and inventory is tighter.

The reason, suppliers say, is the tree-destroying emerald ash borer. So many trees have been taken down in the past few years to stop the spread of the pest that it created a stockpile of firewood. That supply now has been depleted.

That means there’s not as much firewood for this winter, and prices will be higher.

The Blade newspaper reports that most businesses in the region that sell firewood now are taking orders and starting to make home deliveries.

One seller says prices are up 2 to 3 percent this year.
