Police fail to locate driver after chase

YOUNGSTOWN

City police gave chase after a vehicle ran a stoplight Saturday evening, but were unable to find the vehicle’s driver.

An officer saw a car fail to stop at a red light at Market Street and West Hylda after 10 p.m. and attempted to pull the vehicle over, according to a police report. The car, however, sped up and led the cruiser down numerous side streets before finally coming to a dead end on the 900 block of Ottawa Street. The driver then fled on foot into Mill Creek Park, and the car rolled into a post, the officer said.

The officer held the vehicle’s three passengers before attempting to track down the driver in the park once other officers arrived, the report states.

Youngstown and Mill Creek MetroParks police searched the park, but were unable to find the driver.

Police said they found a small amount of suspected marijuana on one of the passengers, Reginald Watson, 26, of Youngstown. He is set to appear Tuesday in Youngstown Municipal Court.

All three passengers told police they didn’t know the driver’s full name, according to the report. A dispatcher told police that the car’s owner had reported it stolen.
