The 39th Oktoberfestival sees singers and shouters

The 39th Oktoberfestival took place at Maag Theatre in Boardman Park on Oct. 4. The festival had two contests, as well as dance performances by Judy Conti Dance Studio and Chaney High School. The contests included a Stars at the Oktoberfestival singing contest and the Hi-Ya(r) shouting challenge.
Winners of the Stars at Oktober Festival singing contest were Jordan M. Vigorito from Girard in the 18-30 year-old category, Jon Price of Salem in the 31 and older category, and Grace Barrett and Renee Angelilli of Canfield in the 13-17 year-old category.
Winners of the Hi-Ya(r) shouting challenge by Master Park Martial Arts International and World Sports, Martial Arts and Expo were Guy Tyler of Columbiana in the junior division, Corey Hughes of Salem in the adult division and Richard Adamson of Monroeville, Pa., in the senior division.
The Hi-Ya(r) shouting challenge is not just a shouting or yelling competition. Hi-Ya(r) program is teaching proper breathing, improving posture, focus, balance, relaxation and strength for better health. The program involves teaching how to breathe with the diaphragm, abdomen, lungs and whole body, as well as your mind and beyond.
Jim Loboy from WYTV-33 was the special DJ and guest judge for the event. The music and sound system was provided by Shooting Star Mobile DJ.
There was also a martial arts demonstration by Master Park Martial Arts.
