Youngstown health board opposes Issue 3 to legalize marijuana

YOUNGSTOWN — At a special meeting today, the Youngstown City District Board of Health voted unanimously to maintain its opposition to the promotion, sale and legalization of recreational marijuana.

The proposed amendment to the Ohio Constitution is Issue 3, which will be on the Nov. 3 ballot.

While Ohio law prohibits public entities that receive state and federal funds from taking direct stances in support or opposition of ballot issues, the city health board, in furtherance of its mission to protect and improve the public health of the local community, and to further increase the public’s awareness of the effects of marijuana use on the quality of life of its citizens, unanimously voted to maintain its opposition to the promotion, sale and legalization of recreational marijuana, said Erin Bishop, health commissioner.
