Vallourec Star reducing its workforce this week

YOUNGSTOWN

Vallourec Star located on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard announced today its Youngstown facility will reduce its workforce effective this week.

The action is in response to a continued sluggish oil and gas market.

“While we have already taken substantial measures throughout the year, market conditions have not improved,” said Judson Wallace, president of Vallourec Star. “The prolonged downturn continues to impact business. This extremely difficult decision is necessary for us to remain competitive in a very challenging environment.”

Reduced volume caused the company to undertake a variable schedule operation, between its two Youngstown pipe mills. Team members will work between both mills. The new scheduling approach improves costs and start up time, allowing for a more lean and agile production process.
