Man dies in Newton Falls trailer fire

NEWTON FALLS — A former truck driver about 60 years of age who lived alone with his dog in a trailer in Blue Water Manor mobile home park in Newton Township died in a fire this morning.

The man's body was found in a middle bedroom of the home on King's Drive off of Carson Salt Springs Road. The dog was found deceased near the entrance.

Richard Bauman, N.F. Joint Fire District chief, said he cannot identify the man until his relatives have been notified.

The fire was reported at 3:23 a.m., and several neighboring fire departments assisted in putting it out, but the structure is a total loss, Bauman said.

The fire appeared to have started in the bedroom area, which received the most damage, but the cause of the fire has not been determined and is being investigated by the Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office, Bauman said.

The home was served by natural gas, but it had been turned off, and the man had an electric space heater. No smoke detectors have been found in the home, Bauman said.
