Staff report
HUBBARD
City council on Monday approved a wage increase for part-time police officers.
The new rate of pay will be $12 an hour, which is a $2-an-hour increase.
Part-time officers do not receive medical benefits and are permitted to work no more than 32 hours a week.
The city employs five part-time officers, though it is looking to hire five more, Police Chief James Taafe said.
In other business, council reviewed legislation for a pay increase for the mayor’s secretary, sending the ordinance to a second reading.
Council typically votes on passage after a third reading.
The proposed ordinance would increase the yearly salary by $915 to $31,415 in 2016, which is a 3 percent increase, and to $31,357 in 2017, which is another 3 percent increase.
