Penn-Ohio goes 2-2 in Florida tourney

A team made up of area high school players recently traveled to Florida for the World Wood Bat Association UnderClass World Series.
The Penn Ohio Scout team featured: Jared Jay, Boardman; Coleman Stauffer, Boardman; Ryan Housteau, Canfield; Kaden Davis, Crestview; Dylan Dickey, Crestview; Mike Grazier, Austintown Fitch; Brandon Myers, Hickory; Patrick Burke, Hilliard Darby; Luke Swauger, Niles; William Aey, Poland; Vince Garayua, Poland; Dan Williams, Slippery Rock; Johnny Medvec, Struthers; and Chris Patton, Ursuline.
John Zizzo and Mike Cefalde were the coaches.
More than 240 teams participated. Penn Ohio went 1-2 in pool play and won a consolation game.
In the opener, FTB Royal from Orlando, Fla., won, 4-1. Aey and Burke both had two hits. Jay struck out seven and gave up two runs.
Penn Ohio’s victory came against Big Stixx Gamers from Georgia. In the 4-3 win, Dickey and Patton combined for a five-hit, three-run pitching performance. BEnyo and Aey had RBI hits.
In the other pool play game, Penn Ohio lost 10-0 to Phenom Signature from Riverside, Calif.
In the consolation game, Penn Ohio won, 2-1, against Chicago’s Elite Baseball Training. With two hits including a double, Aey scored both runs. Burke aand Patton had two hits. Housteau was the winning pitcher, giving up one run and three hits.
