Three young adults charged in second Brookfield burglary

Staff report

BROOKFIELD

Police say a home-invasion burglary Thursday night that has many similarities to one from Oct. 6 does not appear to be related.

Police charged two men, both 18 and from Greenville, Pa., and a boy, 17 from Syme Street in Brookfield, in Thursday’s burglary. Police are also seeking a fourth suspect.

Austin J. Royer, 18, of Saul Avenue and Jesse J. Straughn, 18, of South Mercer Street, both in Greenville, were each charged in Eastern District Court with one count of aggravated burglary and assault and will be arraigned Tuesday, according to court records.

Maurice L. Leonard, 17, of Syme Street in Masury was taken to the Trumbull County Juvenile Justice Center, charged with aggravated burglary, police said.

A man, 18, said he was watching a house on Charles Street in Masury for a friend when Royer, Straughn, Leonard and the fourth person came into the house and committed a burglary shortly before midnight.

The victim was struck in the face by at least two of the males but suffered only minor injuries.

Police arrested Royer and Leonard after a brief chase involving a vehicle they were in. Straughn was located and arrested later.

Police said they do not believe the robberies Thursday or Oct. 6 were random.

In the Oct. 6 burglary, young adults from Warren and Youngstown were charged with robbing a male, 18. The victim said he knew one of the suspects.
