Reputed Cleveland gang member gets life sentence in killing
CLEVELAND (AP) — A 21-year-old reputed gang member convicted in a man’s fatal shooting at a Cleveland convenience store last year has been sentenced to life in prison with parole eligibility after 36 years.
Robert George was sentenced Thursday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court. Prosecutor Timothy McGinty says George was a Cutthroats gang member convicted last week on charges including murder, felonious assault and a weapons count.
A message seeking comment today at George’s attorney’s office was not immediately returned.
McGinty says George and a co-defendant opened fire on 19-year-old Brandon Montgomery and 47-year-old Brian Montgomery after the father and son pulled into the store’s parking lot Aug. 17, 2014. Brian Montgomery was killed and his son was wounded.
McGinty says the shooting’s motive wasn’t clear.
