YOUNGSTOWN

The Butler Institute of American Art, in the heart of the Youngstown, as its mission continues to preserve and collect works of art in all media created by citizens of our country. The Institute’s holdings now exceed 20,000 individual works, and the Butler is known worldwide as “America’s Museum.”

“California Impressionism” is one of the more popular traveling exhibits, from the Irvine Museum in California. The exhibit gives a unique look at the artistic style that combined several distinctive aspects of American and European art. This style, which is often called California Plein Air painting, after the French term for “in the open air,” concerned itself with light and color. As a variant of the American Impressionist style, it focused directly on the abundant California light.

The show is a prelude to “An American Holiday at the Butler” the 45th Annual American Holiday Fine Arts and Crafts Show & Sale. A members preview party is set for 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, and the show will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday
