Friends of Fido, Open Arms groups raise $3,000 for homeless

The community turned out from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday to help homeless people and dogs when Friends of Fido and Open Arms Community Outreach partnered to raise funds for their efforts.

More than 100 gift baskets were donated and raffled at Davidson’s restaurant in Cornersburg. The event raised $3,000, which is being evenly divided between the two organizations.

Those who attended not only bought raffle tickets, but also brought donations such as clothing, blankets and pet food.

Jason Cooke, a member of Friends of Fido, said events like this are important for several reasons.

“So many people do not realize not only the plight of the homeless, but also ways they can help. Today was an opportunity to educate people on what they can do to assist those who need a home, both dogs and [people].”
