Fifteen members of the Cardinal Joint Fire District received some auto extraction training hosted by Canfield Towing on Oct. 24. Firefighters were instructed by Gary Klaus of Howell Rescue Systems on the proper way to get accident victims out of their cars with the Jaws of Life. Howell also covered different types of crashes and various types of rescue training in coordination with the department recognizing October as Safety Month.

David Rach, owner of Canfield Towing, buys scrap vehicles for the firefighters to train on and provides a place for them to practice.

“We appreciate what they do and we are happy to help,” Rach said.

Captain Connor O’Halloran of the Cardinal Joint Fire District organizes the training which is scheduled annually.

“We like to do this training once a year for all our firefighters. We buy our tools from Howell Rescue Systems and they come out and train us and expand our skills on those tools. We would also like to thank Canfield Towing for hosting us and all the help they provide,” O’Halloran said.
