Nearly 20 years later, high school ring makes its way back

YOUNGSTOWN

Even after all these years, her class ring still fits.

But Peggy Gollings did not get to wear her Boardman Class of ’88 ring for more than 20 years, until it was found by an employee of the Youngstown Police Department earlier this summer.

The ring, which was a gift from her parents, was taken in a burglary of a home that Gollings lived in between 1996 and 1998 on East Judson Avenue. She never thought she would see it again until a Spanish teacher saw a post on Facebook by Laura Brown, a budget analyst for the police department.

Brown and Gollings contacted each other, and Gollings got her ring back.

“I just thought whoever took it, took it to a pawn shop,” Gollings said. “I never thought I would see it again.”

Brown works on the sixth floor of the department, part of the old city jail that has been converted into office space. She was helping to move shelving so the walls could be painted in late August when she found the ring.
