Canfield students stepped out to stop diabetes at the Canfield Fairgrounds for the American Diabetes Association Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes Oct. 17.
For their National Honor Society senior service project, Canfield High School seniors Alec Kan and Mason Mangapora worked with Erin Angelo, Canfield High School teacher, to coordinate Canfield’s team and involvement.
Kan, Mangapora and the Canfield team collected monetary donations for The American Diabetes Association and recruited members of National Honor Society to act as route directors to cheer on walkers. The Canfield High School Cardinal Pride Drumline performed before the walk and then led the way around the fairgrounds for the walk participants.
Several teams participated in the walk, with many showing their support with team t-shirts. The Red Striders team was made up of children and adults who have type 1, type 2 or gestational diabetes.
Team Dylan supported Red Strider Dylan Roby, the 2015 Red Strider ambassador.
“I would like to thank everyone for coming out today and for your support. I want everyone with diabetes to know that you are not alone in this fight. Everyone here today is proof of that,” Roby said.
