Strong winds force O'Hare runway closures, delays

CHICAGO (AP) — High winds have shut down most of O'Hare International Airport's runways, causing arrival delays of more than two hours on average.

The Chicago Tribune reports the airport is landing arriving aircraft on two diagonal runways that are used in crosswind weather conditions.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the other five east-west parallel runways were closed today until conditions improve.

According to the tracking website FlightAware.com, more than 270 flights in and out of O'Hare were canceled by midday today.
