Hagan to run again

YOUNGSTOWN

State Rep. Michele Lepore-Hagan said she’ll file nominating petitions Monday to seek a second two-year term in the Ohio House.

Lepore-Hagan, of Youngstown, D-58th, won a four-person Democratic primary last year for the seat held by her husband, Robert F. Hagan. She ran unopposed in the 2014 general election.

Dec. 15 is the filing deadline for the 2016 primary election.

Road closing

YOUNGSTOWN

Hazelwood Avenue at Wilcox Street on the city’s West Side will be closed from Monday through Nov. 25.

Hazelwood between Mahoning and Austin avenues and South Hartford Avenue between Mahoning and Wilcox and Wilcox between Hazelwood and South Hartford will all be open to local traffic only.

The restrictions are necessary to allow sanitary- and storm-sewer repair work.

Protest in Campbell

CAMPBELL

Several animal-rights advocates gathered outside Friday at Campbell Municipal Court to protest before the pretrial of a city woman charged with cruelty to animals, a second-degree misdemeanor.

Tameka Smith, 24, is purported to have kept a dog chained outside during the winter without adequate food or water. Police found the dog’s dead, frozen body in January. Smith entered a plea of not guilty at her arraignment in January this year. Smith’s next appearance will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 29 for a status update hearing.

Art in Concert set

YOUNGSTOWN

Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley is hosting Art in Concert, an evening of art and music with world-renowned artist Michael Israel, at 5:30 p.m. today at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave., presented by Denise DeBartolo York and John York.

Guests will experience Israel’s painting style, which is part rock show, part performance art. He will create five original art pieces to be auctioned at the end of the evening.

Proceeds benefit the Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley Orthopedics and Sports Medicine program, which treats infants through young adults who have a variety of orthopedic problems ranging from simple fractures and sports injuries to complex orthopedic disorders requiring surgery.

Crash injures two

HUBBARD

A driver and passenger were taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being involved in a two-car crash on state Route 62 at Chestnut Ridge Road at 2:48 p.m. Thursday.

They are Ashley M. McKimmy, 33, of Hubbard, and her 3-year-old passenger. They were northbound on Route 62 when their vehicle struck the rear of a vehicle stopped at a red light in the right lane, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Inside the stopped vehicle were driver Brandon MacHamer, 19, of Akron, and a passenger, Chamarr Titus, 36, of Cleveland, who suffered minor injuries and refused treatment.

Seat belts were in use, and the child in McKimmy’s car was secured in a child safety seat.

Minutes with mayor

The monthly “Five Minutes with the Mayor” will be Tuesday, starting at 5 p.m., in the mayor’s office on the first floor of city hall, 26 S. Phelps St. Citizens are invited to visit with Mayor John A. McNally for up to five minutes to ask questions or voice concerns on issues in the city.
