Warren man found guilty in 2014 burglary, assault case

WARREN — A jury found Allen Elkins IV, 31, of Haymaker Avenue Northwest in Warren and Seneca Street in Niles guilty today of two counts of aggravated burglary, one of felonious assault, one of kidnapping and one of aggravated robbery in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.

Elkins could get more than 50 years in prison when he is sentenced following a presentence investigation into his criminal background.

A Warren man said Elkins came down the basement steps of his home on Adelaide Avenue Southeast June 21, 2014, holding a gun to another man's head and then fired at the resident, which caused the resident to fire back. Both men were hit by gunfire.

The jury found Elkins not guilty of two counts of felonious assault but agreed that he used a firearm in commission of his other crimes.

Judge W. Wyatt McKay will decide whether Elkins' background qualifies him additional prison time for being a repeat violent offender.
