Art exhibition to open at DNA

WARREN

“The Drawing Show,” a group exhibition by several regional artists, will open Saturday with a free public reception from 7 to 10 p.m. at DNA Studios Gallery, 137 S. Park Ave., downtown. It will run through Dec. 7. All pieces are for sale.

Four artists with four distinct and contrasting styles are represented: Bill Barron, Jenifer Werthman, Ed Hallahan and Melissa Jean Tucker.

Not only is drawing often the gateway art for many artists, but many a great work of art started with a rough sketch. This show pays homage to the aesthetics of drawing both as a basic building block of art and as a refined piece of art in itself. The featured work will contrast from structured realism to loose expressionism, self-taught to academic, and figurative to abstract.

Barron, a painter and collage artist, is a retired art teacher and a member of the Red Hand performance art group with Hallahan. Werthman is a self-taught drawing artist and painter. Hallahan works in sculpture and drawing primarily, often working on collaborative sculptural pieces with his wife, Jacki Mountain. Tucker is a drawing artist, painter and tattoo artist from Pennsylvania.
