Car with burned body registered to new Youngstown distress commission appointee

YOUNGSTOWN

As a man was arraigned on charges in a South Side homicide last week, police still are trying to identify a man found in a burning car late Thursday on the North Side.

City detectives said a man’s body was found in a burning car at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday in an Otis Street parking lot on the North Side.

Lt. Doug Bobovnyik of the Detective Bureau said the body was so badly burned that dental records probably will be needed to establish his identity. Detectives also need an autopsy to determine how the man died because the body the burns made wounds difficult to discern, Bobovnyik said.

He said, however, the car had dual registration to Carol Staten and her son, Christopher Staten, 25. Carol Staten, a former teacher, was appointed Friday to serve on the new Youngstown Academic Distress Commission.
