Uncounted write-in ballots in Struthers mayor's race to be opened Saturday

STRUTHERS

The Mahoning County Board of Elections will open 147 uncounted write-in ballots Saturday in the Struthers mayoral race that election officials say were misplaced on election night.

But the results of that race and others in the county won’t be finalized until Nov. 20.

It’s all but certain that Mayor Terry Stocker, who ran for re-election as a write-in and currently trails Democrat Danny Thomas Jr. by 72 votes, will be the winner when all of the votes are counted, elections officials say.

“I don’t think [Stocker] has anything to worry about,” said Joyce Kale-Pesta, the county elections director.
