YOUNGSTOWN — Incumbent Mayor Terry Stocker, who was running as a write-in candidate, has a lead over three challengers.
In early voting, Stocker had 411 votes compared to 306 for Democrat Danny Thomas Jr. Officials with the county Democratic Party and Stocker supporters say the incumbent appears to have lost by about 50 votes among those casting ballots at the polls today. However, the board of elections still need to count all the write-in ballots cast today to determine if they are all valid and for Stocker.
"I don't know how many of the write-ins are valid," Stocker told The Vindicator. "They could have written Mickey Mouse. It's close, and I don't know how many they [the board] will kick off."
