Stop the Violence

Imani Community Programming Inc. will present the Stop the Violence rally and community fun day from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Christ Centered Church, 3300 Hudson Ave.

Wildflower program planned
Mercer, pa.
Mercer County Conservation District will host a program on learning how to identify wildflowers at 6 p.m. Thursday at Munnell Run Farm, 753 Greenville Road.
The event will include an introductory course on how to identify wildflowers located in western Pennsylvania, and introduces various techniques and tools utilized to identify wildflowers with the assistance of Peterson and Newcomb’s Field Guides. An interpretive walk around the farm will follow to spot any native blooms.

Lower energy bills

Mayor Doug Franklin will join “Mr. NOPEC” of the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council for a “Muffins with the Mayor” open house from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Raymond John Wean Foundation, 147 W. Market St.
The mayor and NOPEC representatives will discuss how to lower energy usage and save money. Guests are urged to sign up for myNOPEC to connect with others and earn prizes.
The website’s Tip House shares ways to save energy, offers energy-efficient items in its online store, and will offer a competition with other Warren community members and beyond for prizes. When guests sign up using social media, NOPEC will donate $5 to the Basement Ministry.

Teacher accused of sex with student
MONESSEN, Pa.
A former western Pennsylvania high-school guidance counselor has been ordered to stand trial on charges of having had sex with a football player who came to her for help.
Thirty-three-year-old Lianne Danko of Rostraver is charged in Westmoreland County with four counts of institutional sexual assault on a student.
A district judge on Friday upheld the charges against the Ringgold counselor after a preliminary hearing.
Police said an 18-year-old student went to her to discuss relationship problems, and they allege that the two began exchanging intimate text messages and later met in a parking lot to have sex.
Defense attorney David Shrager said he will challenge a statute making it a crime for an educator to have sex with a student even if that student is 18 or older.
