YOUNGSTOWN

Police seized drugs Thursday while serving search warrants and performing traffic stops, arresting six people.

Three of those arrested were found in a West Side home at 49 N. Maryland Ave. that was raided by members of the vice squad serving a search warrant investigating drug activity just after 5 p.m. Inside, officers found $149 in cash, two scales, three bags of suspected crack cocaine, five pills and evidence that other bags of crack cocaine were flushed down a toilet.

Taken into custody was Willie Key, 28, of Youngstown, on a charge of possession of drugs/cocaine; Sydney Henriques, 23, of Youngstown, also on a charge of possession of drugs/cocaine; and David Davies Jr., 38, of Mineral Ridge, on charges of possessing drug-abuse instruments, possession of drugs/heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Reports said Key was the driver of a car that drove away from the home as officers pulled up, and it was pulled over on Interstate 680 south. Inside the car, police found a dose of heroin, two used syringes, a razor, straw and a mirror in the trunk.

All three were taken to the Mahoning County jail.

A 344 W. Marion Ave. home on the South Side was raided just before 6:30 p.m., where police found a loaded .22-caliber semiautomatic handgun, five pills, a press with heroin residue on it, four bags of suspected heroin, a bag of suspected marijuana, a bag of suspected crack cocaine and $545 in cash.

Taken into custody there was Nicholas Duecaster, 19, of Youngstown, on charges of possession of drugs/heroin, possession of drugs/cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

About 4 p.m., officers on patrol spotted a SUV driven by Walter Reynolds, 61, of Youngstown, fail to signal for a turn onto Oak Hill Avenue and pulled him over at Oak Hill and West Chalmers avenues, reports said.

Reports said Reynolds was clutching a piece of paper when an officer approached him and he tried to hide it, but the officer reached inside the car and grabbed his hand, reports said.

Inside the paper was a dose of suspected heroin, and when he was searched, officers found another dose of suspected heroin, reports said. He was taken to the jail on a charge of possession of drugs/heroin.

About 9:30 p.m., police pulled over a car at Hillman and Lakewood avenues that almost collided with a cruiser, reports said. Reports said officers asked the driver, Jason Unger, 36, of Harmonburg, Pa., and his passenger, a woman, what they were doing in town and they answered they were going to Victoria’s Secret but got lost. Officers noted a GPS system was in the car, however, reports said.

Reports said a police dog was brought in to sniff around the vehicle, and the dog detected drugs inside the car. Police found a crack pipe, a dose of suspected crack cocaine, a dose of suspected heroin, seven needles, a spoon, a scale, a razor and a knife, reports said.

Unger was arrested on charges of possessing drug-abuse instruments, possession of drugs/heroin, possession of drugs/cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also was taken to the jail.

The woman with Unger was not arrested. Later, police dropped the drug charges against Unger, but he was arraigned in municipal court on traffic charges.
