Library will launch series on genealogy

SALEM

Salem Public Library is launching a genealogy series this year titled “What’s Up Your Family Tree.”

The first offering will be “Introduction to Genealogy” presented by Tim Semans, genealogy and local history librarian at The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County. The program will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 29 in the library’s Quaker Room, 821 E. State St.

The program discusses two main pillars of family history research. The first includes acquiring all types of records related to genealogy, and the second involves placing the informational resources in context through an understanding of local history. The presenter will reveal how and where these records are located and obtained.

This event is open to the public and free of cost.

Registration is required through the library’s website at www.salem.lib.oh.us. For assistance with registration and if you have questions, call the library at 330-332-0042.
