Ohio courthouse evacuated due to suspicious item closed for day

CINCINNATI (AP) — Court officials say the Hamilton County courthouse that was evacuated because of a suspicious item will remain closed for the day.

Authorities say the building was evacuated at about 8:30 a.m. today and was later officially closed for the day.

Sheriff’s official Jim Knapp told reporters at the scene that something “didn’t look right” during a security screening. A bomb-sniffing dog was brought to the item, and authorities then evacuated the courthouse based on its response.

Knapp said a woman was being questioned, but he had no other details.

Police had cordoned off traffic from the street in front of the courthouse and hundreds of people were being kept away from the building.
