Health care wing open house

CANFIELD

The Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown will celebrate the renovation of the 50-plus-year-old health care wing with an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. July 12 at the Motherhouse, 4250 Shields Road.

Light refreshments will be served. Guests are asked to use the main Motherhouse entrance at the circle.

The health care wing is where nuns live when they are in need of assisted-living care, have chronic conditions or are recuperating from surgery.

The entire wing was gutted and the spaces reconfigured. Fixtures that could be reused went to Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning County Restore in Struthers.

The floor now has 10 bedrooms for long-term care, a physical therapy room and a solarium, a kitchen and dining area, and other aspects necessary for assisted-living care.

The previous health care, built in 1963, could no longer accommodate the physical and safety needs of sisters in long-term care.
