Strawberry festival includes auction

WINONA

The Winona Strawberry Festival, sponsored by the town’s historical society, will take place Sunday, starting with a community church service at 10 a.m. on the lawn of the Friends Church, 4615 Whinnery Road (off state Route 9, about 5 miles south of Salem).

Activities will then move downtown to Winona Road at 11 a.m. where live entertainment, a book signing by “Be Safe, Love Mom” author Elaine Brye and food (featuring barbecued half chickens, sides, sandwiches, homemade pie, berries, ice cream and shortcake) will be available at Glenn Bennett Memorial Playground.

On the grounds of the adjoining Friends Meeting House will be the Tri-State Antique Car Club, offering a variety of craft demonstrations, antique-toy displays and visits to the 1895 and 1838 Friends (Quaker) Meeting Houses. All funds raised will support the ongoing restoration of the 1838 building to serve as a museum.

The event will conclude at the playground at 1:30 p.m., with Kiko Auctioneers selling goods donated by local businesses and individuals.
