On May 18, Show What You Know: Body scrubs invited adults and anyone who wished to join to come to the Austintown library to make a body sugar scrub.

Librarian Lindsay Platt led the class in making Orange Creamsicle-scented body scrubs with a combination of oil, sugar and fragrance.

This sugar scrub not only smelled good, it also served as a skin softening tool.

“The scrub takes off the first layer of skin and kind of exfoliates,” Platt said. “It leaves the skin moisturized, not necessarily replacing what soap does, but more of like a lotion.”

Platt said she taught herself how to make this body scrub.

“Somebody told me, ‘Hey you should learn how to make body scrubs because I want to learn how to make them,’” Platt said. “I said, ‘Oh, OK,’ and here I am.”

Platt also said she was excited the class had a big turnout, many students were interested in being able to make this craft and bring it home to use.

Eva Pavlov, a regular student to various events at the Austintown library said she enjoyed these different types of crafts for a different kind of reason.

“It gets me out of the house,” Pavlov said.

Platt hosts Show What You Know: Body Scrubs once a month at the Austintown library but is soon going to reach out and start hosting it at Tri-Lakes, as well.
