Youngstown police arrest 2 on heroin charges

YOUNGSTOWN — Police arrested two people Wednesday on heroin charges in separate traffic stops.

Brandon Hasley, 22, of Oak Hill Avenue, was taken to the Mahoning County jail on charges of possession of heroin and possession of cocaine after a car he was driving was pulled over at Erie and East Boston avenues about 10:27 a.m.

Reports said Hasley told police he had shoved drugs up his rectum and when they arrived at the jail, they found two doses of heroin and two doses of cocaine in the back seat of the police car where Hasley was sitting.

Hasley was initially taken into custody on a driving-under-suspension charge and a warrant.

Also arrested on charges of possession of drug-abuse instruments, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of heroin was Melanie King, 29, of South Hazelwood Avenue.

She was arrested about 8:10 p.m. in the first block of East Warren Avenue as she was sitting in a parked SUV.

Reports said her purse that was thrown out the window of the SUV had four syringes, a spoon and a small amount of heroin. She was also taken to jail.
